On the watch

One of 2 commissions for my cousin Brian, who was retiring from the fire brigade after a long and illustrious career putting out fires, rescuing cats from trees and driving Fire Engines across Europe on humanitarian charity events.

Not bad Brian, not bad.

I was asked to give each of the watch a personality based on Brian's descriptions, so the Grim Reaper, a T-Rex's, falling friends and those with a penchant for cleaning up were all requested (amongst others)

I've never been a natural when it comes to caricatures - and I envy those that are able to use minimal lines to captures likenesses easily.

I spent quite some time sketching variations of the watch, and only they can tell you if I've done a decent enough job.

Brian did ask for Marge Simpson hairdo incidentally.

Some people have good faces for caricatures - not sure if that's a compliment or not.

I think this took me about 3 weeks from start to finish - pencils, inks and watercolours.

Not too bad really.

As I say, it was actually the second commission related to Brian. His wife, Jeanette requested something a little grander and more elaborate to celebrate his years as a firefighter.

I will definitely add that little adventure in future blogs - so keep watch.

Sorry.

Cheers Brian and Jeanette...or is that merci these days?
